Flateyri Bird Walk

Sound creations made in and around the town of Ólafsfjörður while on the Northwind artist residency at Listhus. There are two bodies of work. Singing with Scenery is a quick response project that sees me making small folkloric improvisations in various locations. These recordings are lightly manipulated using only the original sounds and software effects to enhance the compositions. Heraclitus in Iceland is a body of more refined compositions that use field recordings, instruments, improvisations and digital manipulations to create a set of pieces reflecting on ideas of continuum temporality.

The myth tells about a fairy luring fishermen to wreck their ships through her beautiful singing. Lorelei comes from the old German words lureln, Rhine dialect for "murmuring", and the Celtic term ley "rock". This audio walk puts you in the foundering boat of the fishermen who lost their bearing when they encountered Lorelei. Start where you like. No beginning, no end.

Weird man invites you to adventure.

Just like every morning you leave your house and you take the same walk over to your spiritus. You have to feed it with your morning spit, so that one day it will bring you great success. Unless it has been owned by three people before you. But your brother wouldn't have given it to you, if that would be the case, would he? Start the walk infront of your house (1./left circle), walk alongside the shore (2.) towards the spiritus' box (3./right circle). This Audiowalk is best to be done in the lonesome morning hour.

For this walk I searched on google for text documents containing the words "The emperors new clothes" and "Iceland". The text in the walk are sampled from these texts. The work is an Icelandic saga about financial crisis, hotdogs and flowers. Enjoy.
