Welcome to the Echoes of Youth, a multigenerational sound map featuring youth memories from throughout New York City, produced by Megan Hattie Stahl. Currently, there are 16 stories geolocated in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens. These audio stories were submitted in response to a Spring 2023 open call for place-based memories in New York City's publicly accessible spaces. Participants were invited to record memories of their youth, defined here as between the ages of 15-24. Blue shapes overlaid on the black and grey map below indicated there is a story located there. Stories and their locations are also listed below. To launch the walk, press 'Stream Walk' or download the walk to the right. Make sure you allow GPS tracking permissions, and audio will play automatically when you walk into a blue zone. While listening, you can tap on each blue zone to view more information and a photo. Sounding Arches: A Collective AR Soundscape A collective and locative listening event in celebration of World Listening Day. Produced by: WISE/Amanda Gutierrez/Jenn Grossman These soundscapes responded to the natural environment of Prospect park, or the architecture of the archways themselves. An immersive simulation emulating auditory hallucinations. Created in order to bring awareness as well as share the experience of how the experience feels. Walk includes several real life personal examples created to be as identical and immersive as possible. Headphones with low bass capabilities required. Walk recommended to be done at late dusk.

Music for Healing: Forest Bathing // Sound Walk is a free, geolocation-based audio experience by interdisciplinary artist Angelica Olstad, supported by the Brooklyn Arts Council. Using the Echoes app, participants enter the Prospect Park forest to unlock a non-linear, choose-your-own-adventure sound walk inspired by the principles of forest bathing. Healing music, ambient soundscapes, and gentle prompts for journaling, reflection, and meditation appear like hidden “easter eggs” throughout the path, encouraging visitors to slow down, reconnect with nature, and engage with the work in their own way. Designed as an accessible public healing arts offering, the experience activates as soon as participants step into the Prospect Park Forest, inviting calm, rest, and relaxation. A few things to know: - The music track is the main feature of the experience. It will loop as long as you stay in the designated area. Refer to your app to know if you are in the designated sound walk location. If you leave the designated area, the music will stop and when you re-enter the track will re-start from the beginning. - The music track is 1 hour 29 minutes long. You can stay as long or as short as you want. If you want to listen to the piece in its entirety, just find new paths to walk within the designated area. By doing so, you'll be practicing the art of a walking meditation! - The experience can happen with headphones but the recommended experience is playing on a bluetooth speaker so that you can hear the sounds of nature mixed with the music. Please be mindful of a few things: if on a bluetooth, keep the volume at a reasonable so as not to disrupt the walk of other participants. If you are wearing headphones, be aware of your surroundings and others on the paths. - There are easter egg moments embedded in the experience. As soon as you hear the prompt, stop and follow the instructions. Once you leave the designated area the prompt will stop. Again, be mindful or your surroundings.
