Tastes Like Home Bedford

room 14 ECHOES

Location: Bedford, Bedford, England, United Kingdom

A GPS-triggered Audio Trail in Bedford Town Centre, telling stories by local creatives inspired by town heritage & residents’ memories of food & drink. We have tried to place echoes near benches or areas that are comfortable to be in. Throughout 2024, Tastes Like Home has built up a bank of local stories uncovered through archival research & interviews. Led by Radhika Aggarwal & Alex Levene, Bedford-based creatives have developed, written & recorded stories uncovering delicious memories of food & drink ingrained in the taste buds of Bedford & its residents. We are delighted to share them with you here & hope you enjoy the trail. To do the trail in one helping, allow 90 minutes to gently meander round the pins. Alternatively, take in a few bites when you have time & complete the trail in multiple visits. With thanks to The National Lottery Heritage Fund, Historic England’s High Street Heritage Action Zone for Bedford, The Place Theatre, Bedford Creative Arts, and Wellbeing Media Studios.

Our Team: Aaron Spendelow, Alex Levene, Adie Mueller, Bartolomeo Ziccardi, Desiree Bashi, Hannah Jones, Hazel Fattorusso, Kimo Jeepaz, Lorenzo Bassignani, Oskar Konrad Puanecki, Radhika Aggarwal, Radhika Shah, Ricky Thapar, Rue Hughes, Sareya Randhawa, Sarika Shah, Sophie Herxheimer, Will Mitchell.

An audio anthology of poems and stories inspired by the theme of "Walking Home" produced by walk · listen · create in association with the Milton Keynes Literary Festival and the Parks Trust. Earlier in 2022, Walk Listen Create ran a writing competition inviting people to submit poetry and stories of up to 250 words on the theme of “Walking Home”. They published a printed chapbook of the anthology and invited the authors to record themselves reading their work. Since then, they have reached out to MK Lit Fest to establish a collaborative project. lotusland the musical (2017)

LOTUSLAND philip cornett & paul kindersley This work was developed with a professional development bursary from a-n more information can be found here: https://www.a-n.co.uk/blogs/lotusland-development/ the following is an excerpt of the above blog: LOTUSLAND : THE MUSICAL We began our selection process, finding a handful of videos with the most in-depth narratives and characters. We then framed them within this ‘Professional Development’ process, creating a John Dee style oracle that embodied the need to look into the future, to understand LOTUSLAND and what is out of our control. The main character, Rosey Stoner, starts off as an isolated creative entity, who dreams of the world outside, and yearns to develop through external validation. They are unaware of what they are, and their power within – they are our rosetta stone, that they are the key to their own deeper understanding of their mode of operation. We continued the filming over the week and invited artist, Mark Scott Wood of OUTPOST (Norwich), who became part of the film along with Norwich-based filmmaker, Sam Tring. We then created a mummers-influenced play using scripts from our past work. Completely improvised, this three act play documented Rosey Stoner’s journey outside their isolated creative space into an urban landscape, where they are full of enthusiasm, taken advantage of by a ‘corporate piggy’, but in the end triumphs over their exploitation becoming professionally developed and self-sufficient. Mark and Sam’s involvement directly progressed this part of the production, allowing our professional relationships to become stronger in what could have been viewed as an alternative corporate team building activity. We then took our week worth of footage and edited what is now titled LOTUSLAND : THE MUSICAL, bringing together the documentation of our development as a collaborative production unit. full film here: https://youtu.be/XaGJIQN4k1w

Ramsey : Through Our Eyes and Ears

Ramsey : Through Our Eyes and Ears

Ramsey : Through Our Eyes and Ears , is a sound walk recorded, produced, and composed by members of CRUNCH Ramsey Youth Group. This work was created through a series of workshops co-led by Karen Frances Eng and myself. Led by Karen, the young people, aged 11-16, produced a virtual reality work based on the walk and locations that hold a special meaning to them. They also produced a tagtool animation which they also collaboratively created. There will be a link to view these at some point in the near future. I led the audio side of the work, and facilitated the recording, editing and composing of the sound work with the young people in Ramsey and at Wysing Arts Centre's recording studio. The workshop was facilitated by Wysing Arts Centre, Bourn, Cambridgeshire in partnership with The Ramsey Neighbourhood Trust. July 2022
