D-Day Route Pegasus, Merville and Sword Beach (Dutch Spoken)

L’expérience invite à plonger dans un paysage sonore en perpétuelle construction. Enfilez votre casque, ouvrez l’application et partez explorer la ville à votre rythme. Au fil de vos pas, les sons s’invitent d’eux-mêmes, révélant un autre visage de la cité. La ville devient un instrument, ses rues une partition. Les sons surgissent d’eux-mêmes, tissant un monde parallèle, entre passé et présent, réel et imaginaire. Suivez votre intuition, écoutez vos envies, et laissez-vous emporter dans une réalité hybride faite de souvenirs, d’empreintes et de rêves. Une architecture invisible, constituée de zones d’écoute, se superpose à la topologie de la ville. Les sons se déclenchent et se modulent au rythme du déplacement : le promeneur, muni d’un smartphone et d’un casque, compose ainsi son propre mix sonore. Le projet s’appuie sur des enregistrements réalisés à Caen. De courtes pièces (prises de sons, entretiens, lectures, créations musicales) sont réinjectées dans l’espace urbain et deviennent des traces à réactiver, fragments de mémoire où passé et présent, réalité et fiction se rencontrent. À l’occasion du Millénaire de la ville, Station Mir et le festival ]interstice[ ont invité l’artiste à réactiver cette création de 2014 et à en proposer une version augmentée. Celle-ci intègre notamment de nouvelles pièces sonores produites lors d’un atelier avec Nicolas Germain et les étudiants de l’ésam Caen/Cherbourg. Géosonic Mix – Millénaire de Caen interroge notre rapport au territoire et invente une nouvelle manière d’écrire l’espace. Au fil de la dérive, des « fantômes audio » se croisent, se superposent ou se heurtent à l’environnement sonore, troublant nos repères ou éveillant nos sens. Entre les sons contenus dans la machine et ceux du réel, surgissent d’infinis possibles à explorer. Grosnez Castle is a fortified stronghold thought to have been built around 1330 to serve as a refuge from French attack for Islanders in this part of Jersey. The Marine Peilstand 3 (MP3) naval observation tower is perched dramatically on the headland at Les Landes. It was built by Nazi forces as part of the Atlantic Wall.

Escape the everyday and climb the summit; with a voice to guide, inspire, and help you on your way. An immersive audio experience created by Ventnor Exchange & Glastonbury Poetry Slam Champion Toby Thompson, as part of the 'Bays in the Biosphere' project which aims to explore new ways for audiences to engage with the natural world.  Toby has previously written commissions for the RSC, Royal Geographical Society and National Portrait Gallery. Collaborating with musician Harry Christelis, they have together created a soundscape to transform an ordinary walk into a unique and personal experience.  Practical Information  You will need a smart phone and your own headphones. We recommend downloading the walk before you begin as signal is limited in some parts. The experience is led at your own pace but will take approx 60mins, and we estimate around 30 mins more to return to the starting point.  There are no obstacles to climb but the walk is quite steep, climbing to the summit of a hill so we would suggest wearing comfortable shoes and clothing.

7 Nocturnes East, is a series of ambient and found sound pieces. All inspired by and using location recordings of Guernsey places at night. Supported by the Guernsey Arts Commission, 7 Nocturnes East had an accompanying visual and video art exhibition featuring the work of seven artists. Start on the Crown pier (opposite the Ship and Crown pub) and once you've soaked up the ambience of the marina sounds blending into the music head north to find the other locations. Depending on the exact route you use the walk is around four miles long from St. Peter Port to Bordeaux. I leave it to you how you manage getting to and from the start and end points! You have the island to yourself. I also love the ambient sound of the environment blending with whatever I am listening to. Just as the daytime view out on the south coast cliffs or out over the Russel to Sark and Herm is never the same twice. Every night feels different too. The sky, stars and moon provide different amounts of light, from pitch black to moonlight bright enough to cast shadows. The concept as it developed around St Peter Port 1am was this. Choose at night to record. Then hit the red recording button without too much thought. Work with the audio captured no matter what. With minimal curation and editing of the sound in post production.
