I will start my observation of Compton City Hall/Civic Center. Built in 1977 by famed African American architect, Harold L. Williams. This is a late Modern Design of the buildings and spaces, and getting to take a close look, I am becoming a fan of this style!

Entry to the Pavilion

As I begin leg 1 of my walk, the first thing I notice is the rampant homelessness. I was expecting to see this during my night observation, so this was pretty surprising. The Public library is to my right and the staff are the only ones coming in or out of the building.

City Hall awning underpass

I cut through the underpass of the city hall building because honestly, it looks really cool to me. I've become a fan of late Modern designs and this entire civic center quenches that thirst. As I get closer to the third leg, We can hear a disruptive vagrant in the distance.

City Hall side corridor.

He's still throwing things across the pavilion every which way, but he's minding his own so I press forward. The corridor on the side of the courthouse borders the LA Sherriff dept, They can be seen walking around, but I don't think you'd be able to pick that sound up.

I forgot this part of the civic center existed. This small green space looks like it can hold quite the social gathering.

On the last leg of my first observation, I notice there's plenty of public sitting areas along the pathway. As I reach the end of the pathway into the center of the pavilion, I also forget how BIG this center space is! The MLK memorial is extremely large but has an ocean of walking space around it. I would like to see more done with this space.
