Womanby Street is a welcoming pedestrian street by day, but comes alive at night as the venues and bars fill with a distinct buzz. This piece captures the excitement of a night out on one of the oldest streets in Cardiff with energetic drum beats and soaring synths. It also incorporates real audio from the area, immersing the music in the excitement of its surroundings.

A collage of sounds we can’t hear. End Hid Dusons uses recordings from an EMF [Electromagnetic Field] microphone and a standard microphone of the exact area you are walking around.

Welcome to the Castle Bridge. Enter the grandeur of medieval fanfare and battalions of knights, juxtaposed by the gentle plucking of the Welsh harp. If you listen closely, the faint gurgling of the water and the conversations of surrounding creatures can be heard adjacent to one of the Welsh capital’s most iconic sights.

Micah Hedges is a versatile composer with a particular interest in music for film and video games. Their music is characterised by its raw power and delicate beauty, heavily informed by free improvisation.

Jai Martone is a prize-winning Cardiff-based composer specialising in music for theatre. Their distinctive musical style is emotional, unapologetic, and direct, often hinting at their Neapolitan heritage.

As you walk down the Avenue of Trees, enjoy the break from the city and enjoy a moment of quiet. This piece is made entirely with recordings of nature, and soprano saxophone. The harmony, rhythm and content is all based on the spectral analysis of a Blackbird call. Listen out as elements of nature gradually morph into musical ideas, like the babbling brook becoming a drone, and the blackbird notes sung by a distant voice.

Nina Martin is a Composer and Saxophonist. Her work focuses on music activism, and performing her own compositions.

This piece developed from a short demo I wrote, to score a timelapse of gulls circling above a beach. The textures in this piece should sound reminiscent of the circling of birds, the lapping of waves, or the expansive flatness of the horizon.

Valerie Mackerras is a composer and multi-instrumentalist. Her work is informed largely by the jazz fusion of the ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s.

Max Fowler, I am 22 years old composer/producer with a passion for pop music, edm and musical theatre due to graduate from RWCMD in July. They have been writing releasing music for a few years now and is exited to be featured in this project.

King Edward VII Avenue, when viewed down the centre, is framed by trees and symmetrical parking bays. Focusing on the urban soundscape, I used granular synthesis to manipulate sounds captured along the avenue. Listen for the motion of cars passing and the beeps of parking machines.

Elaina Sophie is a MMus 1 composition and clarinet performance student with a focus on source-bonding, granular synthesis, and mixed media.

Alexandra Gardens is a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. It is somehow simultaneously grand and quaint. This piece was created using a recording of the Gardens processed with linear filter banks, giving the sounds a bell-like quality and reflecting the tranquility of the Gardens.

Artie is an MMus Composition student who specialises in sampling, narrative and storytelling in mixed-media electro-acoustic compositions.

CBCDC stands for Coleg Brenhinol Cerdd a Drama Cymru. This minimalist work brings together field recordings from across the college to illustrate the activity that goes on inside. At the centre of this soundscape is the beating musical heart of the building, expressed through a repeated musical pattern.

Rhian Christabel is an acousmatic, electro-acoustic, soundscaping composer from Wales. Her journey so far has been driven by a passion for music and participation. After a career in opera directing and making music with young people and communities, she has finally found space to make her own work. Her compositional practice focuses on climate and community.
