Waking the Witch - FMP exhibition

Waking the Witch - FMP exhibition

Welcome to "Waking the Witch," an immersive exhibition that explores themes of identity, resilience, and belonging through the lens of Slavic & Balkanic folklore and the experiences of transgender communities. Please note that this exhibition contains content that may be distressing to some visitors, including depictions of violence, trauma, gore, eating disorders and societal marginalisation. Drawing inspiration from the tale of Baba Yaga and Vasilisa, "Waking the Witch" delves into the struggles faced by transgender individuals in Slavo-Balkanic spaces. Through a multidisciplinary approach, the exhibition utilizes various mediums, including screenprinted handmade books, sculptures, textiles, augmented reality and embroidery. Each element is carefully crafted to evoke a sense of authenticity and cultural richness, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in the world of the narrative. By intertwining elements of fantasy and reality, "Waking the Witch" invites visitors to reflect on the universal longing for acceptance and belonging. Through the use of tactile materials and intricate illustrations, the exhibition aims to create a visceral and intimate experience. Triggering discussions surrounding violence, trauma, and the resilience of transgender communities, this exhibition serves as a platform for dialogue.
