The building on the right has a porch with a stone tablet over the door, stating ‘National School 1844’. The school was the Boys’ National School, promoted by Hoddesdon’s first vicar, Reverend William Morice. When the building became a church hall it was named Barclay Hall in commemoration of Robert Barclay of High Leigh, a benefactor to the town.
Turn back up Pauls Lane to Amwell Street and turn right to return to the Clock Tower.
