The NSYC was founded in 1859 when a group of "boating gentlemen" founded the club as way to promote leisure boating and regattas. The "Royal" bit came in 1898 when Edward VII signed the royal warrant establishing the club.
The present building is Grade II* listed and was built in 1903 and is a lovely example of the Arts and Crafts style. It was a very advanced style for its time.
Today people from around the world come by and berth at the yacht club, so you'll never know exactly what you will see in the yacht basin.
