Horseracing on Laytown Beach Each autumn, the Laytown races are held on the beach just south of Drogheda. It’s an official race part of the Jockey Club season. It’s a run in a straight line now, as the u-turn at the end was considered too dangerous. There’s the full panoply of bookmakers, bars, owner’s restaurants, best dressed racegoers, starting gates, and the spectacle of riders in full colours racing down the beach.
