B- Andrews Wood

1 sound

At 189 hectares (467 acres), Shoreham Woods is Sevenoaks District Council’s largest countryside site. Shoreham Woods is actually five different woodlands, all linked together by rolling downland grazed by sheep. This part of the site is known as Andrew’s Wood. This ancient woodland has been thinned to open up the canopy. This allows light to reach the woodland floor and encourage the growth of shrubs and flowers such as Yellow Archangel and Dog’s Mercury. In spring, much of the woodland is carpeted with a spectacular display of bluebells and it is also home to several rare orchid species and some very old trees.
