Stirling Hall Soundscape

1 sound

This soundscape is set on the ground floor of Stirling Hall, with a specific focus on the Foucault pendulum and telescope room. The piece begins at the west entrance, where the listener is surrounded by the sounds of students talking, doors opening and closing, and ongoing classes in nearby lecture halls. As the listener moves toward the centre of the building, a muffled, metronome-like pulse grows louder, representing the pendulum's motion. This pulse gradually shifts as the pendulum's path changes over time due to Earth's rotation. In quieter areas such as the telescope room, the sound becomes more subdued, with low, droning "outer space" sounds emerging, reflecting the room's focus on astronomy. As the listener proceeds through the central tiled hall toward the east exit, the pendulum pulse and drones slowly fade away. The sounds of students return, then fade into silence.
