"[DE] Im östlichen Teil des Berliner Tiergartens befindet sich unweit des Rosengartens der opulente, vielen unbekannte Rhododendronhain, der im Frühjahr in voller Blüte steht. Die Farben der Blüten changieren zwischen einem dunklen Violett über ein sattes Pink bis zu einem zarten Rosé.
Wilhelm Alverdes trug nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg wesentlich zur Neugestaltung der Grünanlagen im Berliner Bezirk Tiergarten bei. Er verstand es dabei, immer wieder für Überraschungen und einzigartige Abschnitte beim Durchqueren des Parks zu sorgen. Hier, wo ein feuchter Stieleichen-Hainbuchenwald seinen natürlichen Standort hat, legte er einen großzügigen Rhododendronhain an, ergänzt durch zahlreiche Halbschattenstauden und durch Pfade mit Trittplatten erschlossen.
»Sonic Drift« ist eines von zwei Werken des mikrotonalen Tuba-Ensemble Microtub im Sound Walk Berlin. Für ihre Musik wählte das Ensemble Orte, die durch ihre friedliche Atmosphäre eine Zuflucht vor dem geschäftigen Stadtleben bieten. Jedes Stück erforscht den harmonischen Raum, parallel zur Erkundung des physischen Raums durch die Klangspaziergänge.
Microtub ist das erste mikrotonale Tuba-Ensemble der Welt. Das Trio wurde 2010 gegründet, ein Jahr nachdem Robin Hayward in Zusammenarbeit mit dem deutschen Instrumentenhersteller B&S die erste voll mikrotonale Tuba entwickelt hatte.
Microtub haben fünf Alben veröffentlicht: »Microtub« (2011), »Star System« (2014), »Bite of the Orange« (2017), »Chronic Shift« (2019) und »Sonic Drift« (2021). Sie haben ihre Musik auf Festivals wie Sonic Acts in Amsterdam, Ultima Festival in Oslo, Festival Densites in Frankreich, Kongsberg Jazz in Norwegen und FIMAV in Kanada präsentiert. Seit 2012 erforschen sie die Möglichkeiten, die im mikrotonalen Stimmungssystem liegen, das als Just intonation bekannt ist, und nutzen das Hayward Tuning Vine Interface als Werkzeug zum Komponieren, Proben und manchmal auch Aufführen der Musik.

[EN] In the eastern part of the Berlin Tiergarten, not far from the rose garden, there is the opulent, largely unknown rhododendron grove, which is in full bloom in spring. The colours of the flowers change from a dark purple to a rich pink to a delicate rose.
After the Second World War, Wilhelm Alverdes made a significant contribution to the redesign of the green spaces in Berlin's Tiergarten. He knew how to build in surprises and unique sections when crossing the park. Here, at the natural site of a moist pedunculate oak-/hornbeam forest, he planted a large rhododendron grove, supplemented by numerous partial shade perennials and made accessible by paths with step plates.
""Sonic Drift"" is one of two works that the tuba ensemble Microtub has submitted to the Sound Walk Berlin. For their music, the ensemble chose places that offer a refuge from busy city life through their peaceful atmospheres. Each piece explores harmonic space, in parallel to the exploration of physical space through the Sound Walks.
