Look out for the bomb crater on your left. During World War Two, Shoreham was described by the BBC as “the most heavily bombed parish in a rural area, anywhere in Britain". Large numbers of munitions were dropped on and around the village by German planes travelling to and from London, causing civilian deaths and extensive property damage. On the 15th of February 1945, a V2 rocket hit Shoreham. It fell on an orchard east of Well Hill, damaging farm buildings and about 20 houses.
