Linda Carver: Can I first of all just quote from John Ruskin, I know that might sound high blown, what he says in one of his essays in the seven lamps of architecture.This is what he says and it's one of our sort of notes that we've made. It has been a lasting witness through seasons and times and connects forgotten and following ages which each other." Now I think that says everything about the building that you're talking about. Venetian gothic revival design with polychromatic brick work, a saddle-back roof, and a distinctive central tower, at the time it had a clock face and when you see photographs of it in the past in that time it did have a clock face.
