[DE] »Two Rooms from the Memory Palace« von Andrea Parkins ist ein generatives elektroakustisches Werk, in dem sich die Komponistin mit poetischen Wechselbeziehungen zwischen Ort und Zeit, gestischer Spur und akustischem Raum beschäftigt. »Two Rooms« wurde als Langzeit-Festmedienarbeit entwickelt, die durch zwei benachbarte, akustisch nicht voneinander getrennte Räume diffundiert und so wechselnde und manchmal verblüffende klangliche Gegenüberstellungen ermöglicht. Das Stück wurde ursprünglich 2015 beim New York Electronic Art Festival uraufgeführt und für das Akousma Festival in Montreal als Performance/Installation für 40 Lautsprecher in einem einzigen Hörraum neu konzipiert.
Für den Sound Walk Berlin hat die Komponistin einen »Raum« im Freien gewählt: das Amphitheater am Flussufer mit Blick auf einen sich erweiternden Abschnitt der Spree, wo die Weite und das Fließen des Flusses mit der Immersivität der Komposition und ihrer langsamen Klangbahn interagieren.
Parkins möchte Bryan Eubanks und Petersburg Art Space dafür danken, dass sie sie auf diesen Ort aufmerksam gemacht hat, den PAS als Hörbereich für seine Dockside-Konzerte im Freien nutzt.

[EN] "Two Rooms from the Memory Palace" is a generative electroacoustic work reflecting composer Andrea Parkins’ exploration of poetic interrelationships between site and time, and gestural trace and acoustical space.
“Two Rooms” was developed as a long-duration fixed-media work for diffusion through two adjacent rooms that are not acoustically isolated from each other, enabling shifting and sometimes startling sonic juxtapositions to take place. “Two Rooms” premiered at the 2015 New York Electronic Art Festival and was re-imagined for Akousma Festival in Montreal as a performance/installation for 40 loudspeakers within a single listening space.
For Sound Walk Berlin, the work is situated within an outdoor "room:" a riverside amphitheater facing a widening section of the Spree, where the river’s expanse and flow engage with the composition's immersiveness and its slow-moving sonic trajectory.

Andrea Parkins is a sound artist, composer, and electroacoustic improviser who engages with interactive electronics as both material and process. She is known for her uniquely gestural/textural approach on her electronically processed accordion, and investigation of embodiment and chance with an array of sonic materials: employing electronic feedback, amplified objects, custom-built software and acoustic instruments. Parkins' projects encompass performances and compositions, fixed-media audio works; and sound for contemporary dance, film and intermedia performance.
