Chapter 01: Cities and Memory 04

1 sound

I remember a city square surrounded by gatehouses. They were high-pitched buildings with huge locks on the front. The arches looked abandoned, and the dust lay thick on the cobblestones, but every so often a guard would approach the gatehouse next to mine as if it was too lonely inside to be defended by one solitary guard.

A town thought this plan was perfect when I was inside, it was a good idea for their security when I was outside.

We are used to looking inside, aren't we? Inside isn't special, it's just something that happens in between other things.
