IMPORTANT At the time of release, Nova Scotia is under a state of emergency due to the COVID19 pandemic. If you walk with Honora during this time, please ensure you are adhering to all guidelines with regard to social distancing. Users are responsible for informing themselves of appropriate measures, including making changes to the route as necessary. All Echoes can be listened to from anywhere by turning off autoplay within the app. Thank you, and stay safe.

While the events depicted in this walk are true, and we have endeavoured to represent them as factually as possible, it is important to note that the characters are fictional. As such, small details about their personal lives may not be accurate. These characters have been created from the remembrances of real people, and drawn from the communities present in Halifax in December of 1917. For clarification on some of these points, please see the below footnotes:

  1. The exact population of Halifax for the time is not known, but estimates show the population at around 40 000 before the start of WWI, and over 60 000 during the war.

  2. For more information on convoys, see the exhibit in the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic.

  3. The booms have since been removed, but the marks they left on the harbour floor can be seen in scans. To see scans, visit CSS Acadia at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, open all summer, Thursday-Tuesday, 10am-4:30pm.
