Chapter 09: Continuous Cities 03

In this continuous city, past and present coexist at once.

The modernity of continual growth does not disrupt the balance. In fact, it augments it. The city just grows up around the outer ring, outward from its inner core. To obtain sunlight, the people of this new city close up and make their homes in the city’s center. They live in one of a few great palaces. Many live in less grand dwellings. And once a person is in the city, there is no place to go, as everything is there. If you do leave, you have to go back.

The people are self-conscious. They have grown used to living a more formal, simplified life. They dress more formally, but they also wear accessories. Most are wealthy, and while none may ever rule, they are leaders. Their city is one of grace, and beauty, and tradition. Several decades have passed since the people left their old lives behind, and the city continues to grow and prosper. Some of the people marry and marry and marry. Many of the beautiful people settle into long-term relationships.

Despite the turmoil and uncertainty of their lives, all are determined to make their futures sound. They hope the future will bring more success. And that gives them a sense of importance. All want to be important in some way.
