Chant of The Cicadas Location: Baringa, Queensland Suitability: Suitable for all ages and mobilities Duration: 50 Seconds
Acknowledgement: We acknowledge the traditional land owners, the Gubbi Gubbi/Kabi Kabi people, whose lands stretched from Pine River in the south to the Burrum River in the north, whose land this sound walk is located and recorded on.
Chant of The Cicada is a mobility-accessible sound experience located on the walkway near the pond, located directly in front of the Baringa Skate Park public toilet. There are a few seats here where you can rest and enjoy the sound experience.
The sounds featured in this clip are predominantly cicadas, featuring different volumes, pitch and tone. Some sounds have been manipulated to make the natural tones higher. There are also ambient sounds of local birds mixed into the track.
The image accompanying this sound features a manipulated photographic image composition. The background is a photo I took at the Baringa Blackbutt Forest where many of the cicada sounds were captured. It has a blue/green duo-tone filter applied. Superimposed over this is a repetitive cut-out image of a cicada with its wings spread, which has been manipulated with a yellow/orange duo-tone filter applied.
The background image is my own and the cutout image of the cicada is a Canva stock image.
