Good morning to the people of Poole

Byelaws are local laws made under an ‘enabling’ Act of Parliament. They reflect their own era, dictating when you may, or may not, bring a goat into the park, and banning the beating or shaking of carpets. The speed limit for road vehicles was raised (in 1936) from 8 mph to 15 mph, and more recently, 20 mph. The saltwater lake has been an occasional dumping ground for disparate items: a Wiltshire and Dorset bus taken from the nearby bus station (June 1983), a safe (Sept. 1988), and a pillowcase stuffed with junk jewellery (Nov. 2002).
