This image of the Battle of Pinkie Cleugh is taken from an propaganda engraving of the battle, made in London in 1548.
It depicts the crucial moment in the battle, when the Scottish army, brought to a halt by an English cavalry charge, broke and ran after coming under heavy bombardment from English artillery and from a force of Spanish mercenaries firing hackbuts.
If you would like to learn more of the battle and where it was fought, you can follow the Battlefield Trail that starts from the car park beside the Roman Bridge, in Musselburgh.
