Take the path on the right, along the canal.
A lonely hire car. Concrete rings of grass.
At the Water’s edge hearts and diamonds will guide you along the way.
Find them, follow them. Follow as it curves ahead to the left.
When I was a youngster my Auntie Nelly, Uncle Jim and family lived on
the house on the bridge over the canal at the back of Ancoats Hospital.
You could see it from upstairs on the bus travelling along Pollard St.
When I used to visit from Clayton it was like going to another world. There
was loads of grass areas and animals as well as a fenced off vegetable
patch. I think the bridge is still there, but the house is long gone.
Brilliant memories.
