Exton has a long and rich history that dates back to the Anglo-Saxon period. The name Exton means ‘the farm by the river Exe’ or ‘the farm of the East Saxons’. The river Exe is now called the River Gwash, which flows through the parish. Exton was recorded in the Domesday Book in 1086.
