Outside Amarillo

Mariah: The wind farms of West Texas can be seen en route to Amarillo from Lubbock. This area worked well being in the panhandle. Long before the fall of other industries, there was already wind energy research happening in the area. Amarillo is also the location of a research partnership in wind energy with Texas Tech. Students can spend a semester in Amarillo eating and breathing wind energy. The wind farms allowed the area to grow but Amarillo still holds its roots.
