Location: Howard County Public School System Administration Building 10910 Clarksville Pike, Ellicott City Cast iron, stainless steel; 1’x2’x12’ Once perceived as ‘balls of fire’ trailing sparks and flames are now understood to be comprised of a collection of meteor-like stones, aggregates and reflective ice. These old and new ideas about comets led Billingsley to combine the abundant natural element iron with a man-made alloy of iron, stainless steel, to create a symbolic comet that is shiny and bright and was born in a fiery furnace.
