About the tree:
Ash is the Norse Tree of Life connecting heaven and earth in Norse mythology. It has compound leaves of between nine and thirteen leaflets. Sadly it is affected by ash dieback throughout England, though happily we do not have it in the Royal Parks as yet.
About the composition:
For the Ash trees I considered using only wooden instruments to reflect the trunk of the tree. Each tree is unique, depending on size, whether it splits into two, is one-sided or any imperfections it may have. Notice how high or low the pitches are, whether the instruments play together or create a conversation and whether both instruments are playing the same rhythm. Xylophone - Jonathon Phillips, Wood Block - Daniel Watt
