Mariner played by Deity Dionysus
Salem has done work over the years to expand its understanding of the impact of slavery on the town, as well as continuing the work to situate Salem’s free black community in its history and spaces. In 1998, with the help of the National Park Service, local historians started a pamphlet of information speaking on the work of famed abolitionists from Salem, who had an impact on local history. If you are interested in learning more about some sites around town that explore Salem’s Black History, you can see the original pamphlet here: http://npshistory.com/brochures/sama/african-american-heritage-sites-2003.pdf For more information on the Salem Women’s Anti-Slavery Society, and Sarah Parker Remond, visit here: https://www.blackpast.org/african-american-history/female-anti-slavery-society-salem-massachusetts-1832-1866/ and here: https://www.salemdaughtersofdarkness.com/post/seven-badass-women-of-salem-sarah-parker-remond
