The forests and jungles of the world act as carbon sinks, drawing in carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and locking it into their bodies. Rampant deforestation is removing this effect and returning centuries of locked carbon back into the atmosphere. As this carbon warms the atmosphere, their are more forest fires which emit more carbon feeding a viscous cycle. Eventually we will reach a tipping point.
