You take a stroll in the woods and come across a calming pond.

An immersive soundscape inspired by the 14th-century Chantry Chapel of St Mary on Wakefield's medieval bridge, the banks of the river Calder and JMW Turner’s 1798 watercolour study of the same spot. Experience your surroundings in a new way as you explore the bridge, admire the chapel and linger beside the riverbank, enjoying a view of Wakefield today that still bears traces of the one painted by Turner more than two centuries ago. Betweenness is a site-specific composition set within an immersive geolocated sound world; a speculative journey exploring the wild soundscapes and sonic signatures of past ecosystems prompting the consideration of our current, past and future ecologies within the familiar areas we live through collective listening. The piece is experienced as an audio walk accompanied by a text score booklet which leads you along the route through the University of Huddersfield campus. Listen and interact with species that once inhabited the landscape through participatory text score prompts– as echoes of former landscapes and habitats come alive through spatialised sound. -------------- Start: Entrance to the Richard Steinitz, the University of Huddersfield. An immersive soundwalk with an environmental theme for the Our Biennale finale. Featuring recordings made by participants during the Sound Adventures project and the BBC Sounds Effects Library. Unknowingly repeating the same day over and over. But time is slowing down, and the town is at risk of being lost forever. Today’s assignment is to reactivate time. Collect the clocks and clues that will help you on your way as Commander X guides you round the streets of Huddersfield. But hurry, you don’t have long! Your mission begins at Lawrence Batley Theatre. Walk This Play is a new series of location-based audio plays by ThickSkin, designed for listeners as they walk. The plays are immersive and immediate, transporting you inside the story. Each is unique to its location and invites you to experience a familiar route from a new perspective. Follow the instructions given by the narrator. The route is circular and will start and end at the Lawrence Batley Theatre courtyard. When you start the walk, you will see your current position as a Yellow dot on the map. If the app asks you about location settings, select ‘allowed all the time’ to improve GPS. If the sound disappears, just check on your map to find your route again. The walk will last around 45 minutes (depending on your speed) with some inclines, but no steps. The walk will wait for you and can be enjoyed at your own pace. As this is an audio experience, D/deaf audiences can choose to use the in-app captions. Explore Elsecar in a different way through a series of musical soundscapes created by composer Amanda Johnson. Immerse yourself in sound and music inspired by the lives of travelling people who regularly visited Elsecar. Walk in the footsteps of canal Bargees, Romany Traveller horse dealers and people who travelled with the fair and discover the locations they visited and why. Funded by the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) utilising Additional Restrictions Grant (ARG) monies dedicated to supporting the cultural and creative industries across the region. The grant is administered by Barnsley Museums and Heritage Trust (BMHT).

READ THIS FIRST! This is an adventure map including some sounds some audiences may find disturbing. The walk starts behind the garden centre on Birchencliffe there is a little wood with 2 paths, take whichever you want, this is the same for the rest of the walk so long as you carry on heading in the general direction of the Recreation Ground where this short walk ends. Tip: If the sounds stop try going out and then back into the walk. Enjoy!
