Boundary St, West End

Boundary St, West End

Welcome to the Boundary St, West End AR audio tour. This AR experience is designed to give you an insight into the physical and social divide between indigenous people and European settlers from 1829 up to 1948 that started with the demarcation of inner Brisbane. These rules meant that Aborigines could not be inside the zone after 4pm six days a week or at all on Sundays. The rectangular boundary ran from Boundary St here in West End up to Boundary St in Spring Hill, then across to Wellington Rd in East Brisbane. What follows are excerpts from books, diaries, newspapers and other references that reveal the zeitgeist of that time. To fully enjoy this experience, first walk up the “indigenous side” of Boundary St, from the corner of Mollison and Boundary up to Vulture St, then back down the “European side” from Vulture St to the cnr of Boundary and Browning St.

Voices of Nature 2020

Voices of Nature 2020

'Voices of Nature 2020' brings together acoustic ecology and visual art communities to explore ways of representing nature’s voice(s). The exhibition is part of the biennial Rights of Nature week, hosted by the Australian Earth Laws Alliance (AELA) and is presented in partnership with the Australian Forum for Acoustic Ecology (AFAE). ‘Voices of Nature 2020’ aims to encourage the exploration of the concepts of voice, standing, representation, and agency of the natural world within human governance systems. Rights of Nature is grounded in the recognition that humanity is just one member of the wider Earth community, and that we have evolved with, and are dependent upon, a healthy, interconnected web of life on Earth.

Fae Road

Fae Road

“Fae Road” is an augmented reality sound walk that follows your journey with a land spirit named “Fae”. Guided by her voice, you'll travel across the locales of South Brisbane to track down a number of "memories", helping Fae discover what happened to her home. This sound walk is an assessment piece created by Katrina Padernos for the 2993QCM Creative Audio course, Griffith University. The narrative centres around themes of urbanization and environmental degradation, powered by the listener’s imagination and brought to life with audio recordings depicting scenes across five different main locations. Each scene acts as a brief memory Fae shares, describing what the landscape would have been like in a faraway time.
