Boundary St, West End

room 1 ECHOES

Brisbane, Queensland, Australia
Welcome to the Boundary St, West End AR audio tour. This AR experience is designed to give you an insight into the physical and social divide between indigenous people and European settlers from 1829 up to 1948 that started with the demarcation of inner Brisbane. These rules meant that Aborigines could not be inside the zone after 4pm six days a week or at all on Sundays. The rectangular boundary ran from Boundary St here in West End up to Boundary St in Spring Hill, then across to Wellington Rd in East Brisbane. What follows are excerpts from books, diaries, newspapers and other references that reveal the zeitgeist of that time. To fully enjoy this experience, first walk up the “indigenous side” of Boundary St, from the corner of Mollison and Boundary up to Vulture St, then back down the “European side” from Vulture St to the cnr of Boundary and Browning St.
