MA DMA 2017 Soundwalk Brighton

Distorted journey of music and travel. Travellers who listen to music whilst on their way often miss things or things tend to fade in and out of their minds. Whereas, travellers who do not listen to music whilst on their way tend to take in information around them without any interferences. So, does music create an interference that is also a visual distortion.

This audio and image is about whether these interferences add to distraction and the disorientation of a person or do they enhance the feeling of a place, creating an ambience and concentration on the person’s surroundings?

Garden in Brighton means the mixture of art and nature. All its surroundings are full of scuffles between human language, machines sighs and music.

The investigation into the semantics of verbal. The poetry of non-verbal. The semantics of existence in the heart of the bohemian city.

Surfaces - Judith Ricketts

Located in Brighton's Regency heart this soundscape is designed to paint an interwoven picture of people’s interactions in the City. These interactions took place both between the spaces and the surfaces that connect the spaces .

The sounds themselves are incidental sounds, discovered by walking, standing, listening, and being in the space.

Brighton is an artistic city and the city has many artist. While people are walking in the streets of Brighton, they can see the graffiti all around the city, on the nearly every building in the center of Brighton. This recording is from one of the paintings while drawing which people can see often in Brighton. It is very passionate to hear the sound of these street arts which the city already has.

This piece focuses on a busy crossing between King’s Road and Grand Junction Road by The Queens Hotel where two streets meet Brighton’s seafront. This track showcases the contrast between the hustle and bustle of the urban aspects of the city emphasised by the noises of car engines, motorbikes and sirens juxtaposed with the tranquility of the beach represented by the sounds of seagulls accompanied by guitar melodies.
