room 5 ECHOES

Welcome to Tallaght - the social scene , this immersive tour explores Tallaght's best social spots and hangouts for all ages. From lively pubs such as Molloys, to fun nights bowling and playing pool in the Leisureplex. After this walk you will know exactly where to go for all your needs, whether it is to go and enjoy a night out with live music, shop and have coffee with your friends, or have a taste of different cuisines. This tour will start off at the Priory Market and help you make your way through to the Sean Welsh Park where this tour ends however, not without stopping by some key social spots. I would say bring some snacks along for the walk but you won’t have to because our first stop will fill you up!

Note: This walk can be done in any order. For an optimised experience, it is recommended to stay within each Echo circle on the map for the duration of the audio. Enjoy! About: I’ve been feeling really sentimental towards this park recently so I want to capture how it is at this time so I can always come back here and walk it as my 20 year old self. I love creating time capsules, through audio and video diaries, writing in my journal, collecting trinkets and programmes from places and shows, anything. This feels like another form of creative relief, therapy and nostalgia for me.

Anthrome / Biome Soundwalk

Anthrome / Biome Soundwalk

Anthrome / Biome Soundwalk is a reflection on the dichotomy of the natural versus manmade. Here, the act of listening takes on new meaning. With a focus on both the science and aesthetics of the soundscape, listening becomes a method for developing new connections to our environment and a deeper understanding of the climate and biodiversity crisis. The development of this walk included a period of research and field-recording on the grounds of IMMA. This will be brought into context by comparative research and recordings with the native temperate rainforest at the Vale of Clara in Wicklow and the newly developing wood at Glas-na-Bradan in the Belfast Hills. The concepts of durational and non-human listening will be explored. This brings an awareness of timescales and also lifeforms generally not considered into focus, shaping a broader experience of our place in the living world.

IMMA Timescapes Soundwalk

IMMA Timescapes Soundwalk

Created for IMMA's Earth Rising Eco Festival 2023, the IMMA Timescapes Soundwalk is a hybrid soundwalk / performance resulting from a collaboration between composer and sound artist Robert Coleman, ornithologist Seán Ronayne, and performer and improviser Seán Mac Erlaine. The soundwalk explores the soundscape of IMMA and its relationship stretching from the past, through to the present day and into the future. The focus across these different moments in time allow us to perceive the human impact on the environment which can often go unnoticed due to the slow rates of change. Through eco-acoustic monitoring of bird migrations over IMMA we also explore the geographical connections which become apparent across the globe highlighting the interconnectedness of the Earth's biodiversity. A subsequent panel discussion at 12 noon on Sunday at the People's Pavilion will explore the merging of artistic and scientific practices and what happens when these individuals engage in a process of learning from each other. This will feature in the CMC radio series, ‘We Only Want the Earth’, funded by the BAI through their climate change round for RTÉ lyric fm on the climate emergency and contemporary music and chaired by chaired by Helen Shaw of Athena Media.

Tréimhse

Tréimhse

If the Morrígan, the wise crow & great queen in Irish mythology could tell you a story, what would she say and where would she bring you? At IMMA’s Earth Rising, she appears as the guide for the soundwalk Tréimhse* in the formal gardens. The walk plays on the need in these troubled times for what Robin Wall Kimmerer calls Re-story-ation “our relationship with the land cannot heal until we hear its stories. But who will tell them?” Braiding Sweetgrass (2013). Using field recording, sound and storytelling to lay down new pathways the walk places Irish and its close ecological observation at the heart of its storytelling. Reimagining the gardens as Gaeilge the Morrígan brings into focus the need for anti colonial methodologies of care and profound ecological awareness to unsilence and imagine new worlds. Siúlaimid le chéile. We will walk together. Tréimhse grew out of conversations between visual artist Rosie O’Reilly and curator Shannon Carroll on the power of Gaeilge as a cornerstone of a new ecological time. it brings together their research, field recordings and sound by Headfoot (Colm O’Ciosoig, Rosie O’Reilly, Barry Ryan) and words by Prof Michael Cronin (An Gaeilge agus an Éiceolaíocht, 2019) Image: The Morrígan, rosie o’reilly *Tréimhse: a period of time
