DES304 Task 01 - Sensing Environments. A walk to and from Rothwell Station for those who are interested in the area for travel purposes.

Welcome to Rothwell Station

Welcome to the Audio Visual Tour of Rothwell Station. This audio visual experience will walk you through the layout of the surrounding area and prepair you for your travels using this station.

Stop 01: Rothwell Station Round-About

When heading towards the Station via car or the path a round about is present to filter trafic coming towards the Station. You will of course here cars and buses drive past but, occasionally you may here planes from the nearby airfield passing overhead as heard here.

Stop 2: Rothwell Station Car Park Entrance

When approaching the station car parks are visable to park ones car in order to, commute on the train or bus to either leave yourself or pick up visitors. Assorted plant life liven the urban design of the car park to lighten up the surroundings with motors or cars and transport acompanning the scene.

Stop 3: Surrounding Forest Area

Surrounding the Train Stations is a natural woods area that has been present long before the contruction of the station around the Late 2000s to Early 2010s. Since the trains interupts the natural life around the area it was important to leave sections of the Forest to be still inhabited by the native wildlife such as, Kangeroos. Here we hear some bugs disrupting the quiet of the area but, blended in with the Car and Trains sounds nearby.

Stop 4: Rothwell Station Carpark

The Carpark covers most of the ground of the Train Station however, it is mostly empty giving rise to younger folk of the neighbouring area practicing driving or riding around in bikes or scooters. Another bit of evidence of the empty lot is the Plovers that occupie the area in the abscents of cars and noise, they fly away when approuched.

Stop 5: Resting Spot & Train Tracks

When coming to a nearby bence you my see or hear the passing of a trains heading to potentially Brisbane City. This area is cut of mostly for members of staff only but a bike path exists to follow the train's path to Mango Hill Station and beyond.

Stop 6: Rothwell Station Entrance

Finally reaching the station. Most don't take the long route to get here most pass by the bus stops located at the circular road to get here where, one will hear the passings of cars and buses making their commute. Messages can be heard from the PA system about upcoming trains with a visual moniter to view train times and incoming trains.

Stop 7: Rothwell Station Platform Overhang (Platform 01)

To get to Platform 1 of the otherside of the tracks you must cross the overhanging bridge on top of the station. Platform 01 is needed to get into the city so a lot of people must find their way to the platform via the stairs or elevator. Walking over head you can get a view of the trains below with the PA system signaling each train.

Stop 8: Passing by the Power Station on the way out

When leaving the station and walking home you will find a power station humming in the distance of your walking path. One usally walks on the left hand side to find there way home or to the bus but, the power stations keeps it energy going while many pass by.

This soundscape walk depicts how we can have a better grounding in our everyday environments regardless of the often overwhelming anthropogenic soundscape. This soundscape walk will take you through the sounds of an urban beach beginning with listening to the everyday soundscape and progressing into the different natural soundscapes throughout the day at the beach. Throughout the soundscapes see if you can appreciate the differences between the first soundscape and the five that follow it, and use it as an example on how to take notice of your own natural soundscapes in your own life. Acknowledgement: I acknowledge the Gubbi Gubbi people, the traditional owners of the land on which this soundscape is placed and the land that the audio and photographs are collected from, and I pay my respect to the elders past, present and emerging. Warning: Whilst this soundscape does not require you to cross any roads, it is still situated nearby them, always be aware of your surroundings. This soundscape also takes place in an area of high foot and bicycle traffic, always be vigilant and be curtious of other pathway users.
