Shared Spaces, Different Sounds explores how everyday sounds shape our sense of belonging at Stratford School and in the nearby streets. Across different locations, listen to campus life, music, and street sounds. Begin with the short introduction, then compare the recordings with your surroundings and consider how the same sounds can make people feel welcome, distracted, or left out.

When Stratford Speaks

When Stratford Speaks

When Stratford Speaks is a seven-stop soundwalk through downtown Stratford that explores how sound shapes movement, attention, and our sense of place. The walk moves through warning signals, traffic, conversations, everyday encounters, water, environmental sounds, and music. Some sounds direct us without us noticing, while others can completely change how a familiar space feels. As the route moves away from louder and more controlled sounds, the experience gradually becomes quieter and more reflective. The goal is simple: slow down, move through the city, and notice the sounds that normally disappear into the background.

Can you guess the age of water?

Can you guess the age of water?

Can You Guess the Age of Water? A Soundwalk Across Stratford's Generations A seven-stop soundwalk through downtown Stratford, recorded on a Zoom H6. Rather than adding to the town's heritage image, it observes the quiet daily life of older residents alongside the machines and younger people around them. The two don't merge, but they share the same sidewalks and move past each other in a kind of harmony. The walk ends at a water fountain, where the question "Can you guess the age of water?" turns the listener's attention from human age to time itself.
