Embark on an auditory voyage from the ocean to the mountains in North Brisbane's Moreton Bay region. The walk will take you through:

Clontarf Beach, Capstone Lake in Mango Hill, North Lakes Environmental Reserve, Falls Lookout on Mt Mee in the D'Aguilar National Park

As we journey, let us honor and acknowledge the traditional custodians of these lands.

Welcome to "Ocean Whispers" the first step of a diverse journey through captivating terrains. As you begin, immerse yourself in the mesmerizing rhythm of the sea, where waves gently caress the shore in a harmonious dance. Notice the delicate balance between the raw energy of the ocean and its tranquil whispers.

Shoreline Serenity

Leave behind the ocean waves and venture inland to experience a new auditory landscape, where the tranquil melody of the shoreline gives way to the rustling of sand beneath your feet and the sounds of colliding driftwood. The playful cries of crows gives a nostalgic echo of the shore as the walk continues.

Wildlife Conversations

As you enter the new terrain by the lakeside, you're, greeted with a lively conversation among the local inhabitants. The ducks quack energetically and the birds chirp cheerfully.

Timber Tales

Continuing deeper into the forest, the canopy above thickens, filtering sunlight into dappled patches on the floor. Here, amidst the towering trees, the rustling of leaves becomes more pronounced, their voice weaving through the dense foliage like a delicate melody. As you stroll forward, each step brings forth a satisfying crunch as your feet meet the carpet of fallen leaves. Admist the beauty of the woodland, a gentle buzz of insects fills the air.

Gentle Cascade

Journeying further inland and ascending the rugged terrain of the mountains a new sanctuary awaits. As you walk closer to the serene waterfall, its gentle cascade forms a tranquil backdrop that harmonizes with the peaceful ambiance. It is accompanied by high-pitched bird calls, enriching the atmosphere with enchanment. Listen closely as the bird's soft vibrato echoes through the air, blending seamlessly with the gentle murmur of the waterfall.

Mountain Peak

CAUTION: Audio recording near roadways. Stay vigilant of your surroundings. At the mountains's peak your journey comes to an end. The sounds of your footsteps on the muddy path fade as you reach the peak. High above, birds greet your arrival with distinctive calls. Their rapid chirping echoes a sense of celebration, as they cheer you on at the journey's end.

The word ‘ephemeral’ means to last for a very short time. Something that is momentary. This term is usually reserved for the fallen leaves in autumn or a chalk drawing on the ground. However when we think of time, time defines our existence. We are born, we live, we die. Ephemeral can also be defined as a moment. A brief period of time on the top of a mountain, in the sea or on your balcony. A moment that seems so mundane yet can quickly become another lost memory. As you experience this trail, take a breath. Close your eyes and allow yourself to fully immerse. Listen to the sound of the traffic, the flow of the water and the sound of the flames. As in an instant, these too will become a memory. Become ephemeral. Disclaimer: Please use caution and be aware of your surroundings. This trail overlaps on pathways and roads.

A mini showcase of some of the public art to be found in the Moreton Bay area. Shows Public Art from Sandgate, Redcliffe, Deagon and Strathpine. The locations and art works are dear memories to me from my childhood, growing up in the area, and the neglect of these and many other pieces not shown on this walk saddens me greatly. My greatest hope is that while experiencing this walk, others come to appreciate and learn more about these fabulous art pieces, and maybe become inspired to add some of their own to the areas. Task 1 - DES304 - Georgia Clifford - Harmony of the Urban Environment

This soundscape walk depicts how we can have a better grounding in our everyday environments regardless of the often overwhelming anthropogenic soundscape. This soundscape walk will take you through the sounds of an urban beach beginning with listening to the everyday soundscape and progressing into the different natural soundscapes throughout the day at the beach. Throughout the soundscapes see if you can appreciate the differences between the first soundscape and the five that follow it, and use it as an example on how to take notice of your own natural soundscapes in your own life. Acknowledgement: I acknowledge the Gubbi Gubbi people, the traditional owners of the land on which this soundscape is placed and the land that the audio and photographs are collected from, and I pay my respect to the elders past, present and emerging. Warning: Whilst this soundscape does not require you to cross any roads, it is still situated nearby them, always be aware of your surroundings. This soundscape also takes place in an area of high foot and bicycle traffic, always be vigilant and be curtious of other pathway users.
