Fenn's and Whixall Moss sound trail

Fenn's and Whixall Moss sound trail

A walk of wetland soundscapes featuring history, recordings of wildlife, water and trees, poetry and local memories of life on the lowland peatbog of Fenn's and Whixall Mosses. Artists Andrew Howe (UK) and Kim V. Goldsmith (AUS) connect two internationally significant wetlands by bringing sounds from the Macquarie Marshes, New South Wales, Australia into the Fenn's and Whixall and Bettisfield Mosses National Nature Reserve. The soundscapes are best experienced through headphones via smartphone. This is part of the Mosses and Marshes art project supported by the National Lottery and Arts Council for England and delivered by Andrew Howe and Kim V. Goldsmith working in partnership with Shropshire Wildlife Trust and Natural England. The Sound Trail starts from the Morris Bridge car park at Whixall Moss (SJ 493354 SY13 2RT) and links with part of the Fenn's and Whixall Mosses History Trail. It can also be accessed from the Shed Yard car park (SJ 50353681, SY13 2PD) and Roundthorn Bridge car park (SJ 505360). The trail is approximately 3 miles long and will take about 2 hours to walk. The paths are well marked, level and easy to walk but often wet and boggy so wear wellingtons or sturdy footwear. For further information see http://www.ofthemosses.com Artist websites: www.andrew-howe.com www.kvgoldsmithart.com https://eco-pulse.art/ Soundscapes edited by Andrew Howe and/or Kim V. Goldsmith as indicated in the Echoes details. The soundscapes are arranged into the elemental categories of earth, water, fire and air. Poetry contributions by Gladys Mary Coles, Emily Meredith (www.emilymeredith.net) and Gertie Bielstein. Many thanks to Stephen Barlow for ecological advice and contributing bird recordings. Electric Echoes: A Sonic Argument Between the River Goyt and Stockport Power Station

Electric Echoes: A Sonic Argument Between the River Goyt and Stockport Power Station

**Electric Echoes: A Sonic Argument Between the River Goyt and Stockport Power Station. The river speaks back.** **LAUNCHING ON 19TH FEBRUARY 2026** Download the SoundWalk and attune to the River Goyt as it flows and explore the echoes of an industrial past when the river was forced through a vast underground system that fed Stockports Power station. Composed by artist Maya Chowdhry, in collaboration with the local communities of Culture Bridge and the Hong Kong Fellowship, the SoundWalk is a sonic excavation of the river and forces that shape its contemporary form. Listen in as the river guides along its course, through the town’s post-industrial edges, including the tunnels and site of the former Stockport Power Station where the river and the town meet. Using your mobile phone and the Echoes app, you’ll experience site specific sound compositions created in response to the unique history of each location - sonic textures of industrial drones, electrical surges, reverberations of underground tunnels, and the discordant rhythms of the river as it was heated and contracted. The SoundWalk is one half of a sonic argument that unfolds across an interactive installation at Stockport Air Raid Shelters and the walk. While echoes of Stockport’s power station dominate the airwaves at the Shelters, in the SoundWalk the River Goyt has its chance to speak back. Enjoy the Electric Echoes SoundWalk at your own pace, simply download the Echoes app and PDF map below to get started. We recommend using headphones to experience the SoundWalk in the highest quality. The Electric Echoes sound installation will also be on display from February 20th to March 22nd. Whitmore Reans Re-mapped

Whitmore Reans Re-mapped

GeoTone CIC is an arts and technology social enterprise with a mission to create and share innovative audio experiences with people who are disadvantaged, disabled, elderly, or living in remote locations. We've spent time at Gatis Community Space, working with them over the summer to find out about the people who use the space and about the area. Our tactic was to make a nuisance of ourselves. We started off by interviewing everyone we could, asking them who they were and what Whitmore Reans means to them. We didn't know what to expect, but what we found were people with an extraordinary range of experiences and backgrounds. We met a violinist and entrepreneur in the making, a volunteer with multiple degrees, a gardener getting back on their feet, a sci-fi horror expert, a refugee whose passion is human connection and african jazz. They were all part of one community where they gave their time and energy to one another, making things happen. Everything we recorded at Gatis has been put together for the Whitmore Reans Re-mapped audio walk, which takes you around the building and on our journey through this part of our world. We also worked with people to contribute to one of Gatis's big projects, their Lantern Walk. It's an opportunity to bring people together and create a magical night. We decided that the Lanterns could be a character, and that the walk could tell a story that comes from Whitmore Reans. With the youth club and at drop-in sessions we created character biographies, stories, sound effects as well as recording songs and electronic music to help create a local folklore for the Lantern Parade. To carry on the conversation on the days we weren't there we also installed our red telephone box, with the help of Gatis, as well as James Townend and Tom Morgan. We wanted to make a quiet, private space where people reflect on where they live, and imagine how it might be different.
