This geolocated walk was created for Erika by Lia as a little present for Erika's birthday in February. It is meant to be experienced while walking from Erika's home to her work.

Juan Esteban Aristizábal Vásquez (born August 9, 1972), known professionally as Juanes, is a Colombian musician who was a member of the rock band Ekhymosis and is now a solo artist. "La Camisa Negra" ("The Black Shirt") is inspired by Colombian singer-songwriter Octavio.

Coming from an early background in punk rock and rap music, Charlie B. Wilder (aka Captain Planet) began making hip-hop beats at an early age on archaic equipment, digging for samples in the usual Funk, Soul and Jazz wells –all the while developing a taste for Reggae and African music. After being offered a primetime slot playing strictly international music on WNYU’s “Passport” radio show, Wilder began digging deeper and deeper into music from Africa, the West Indies, India, Latin America and the Far East – eventually coming into possession of the entire World music section of Lincoln Center’s Public Library. Flipping these same World records the way Hip-Hop producers traditionally sample, these international sounds began creeping into the tracks that the Captain was producing for a few Hip-Hop groups at the time. After realizing these beats stood on their own and could function as a different kind of dance music, Wilder’s “Gumbo Funk” style of production was born. His 2005 debut 12” on Bastard Jazz sold thousands of copies and led to remixes for artists like Vieux Farka Toure, Alice Russell and The Pimps of Joytime – not to mention placements on HBO’s Entourage and CBS’s CSI:NY

Since then Wilder has released 2 more successful Captain Planet EP’s on Bastard Jazz Records as well as a slew of remixes (both bootleg & official) for the likes of Little Dragon, Erykah Badu, Mayer Hawthorne, Mia Doi Todd, and Gilles Peterson’s Havana Cultura project. His eclectic music blog MixtapeRiot.com has become a popular go-to for DJ’s, tastemakers, and music lovers worldwide- providing them with a steady stream of underground dance music, exlcusive remixes, and DJ mixes. The Captain’s debut full-length album “Cookin’ Gumbo” is the culmination of his many years constantly producing music and searching for new sounds. Blending a wide range of styles (from NY hip hop, to NOLA funk, to Nigerian Afrobeat and beyond), Captain Planet’s trademark sound has matured into a truly unique form of electronic music- bridging gaps between worldwide music diasporas as well as contemporary dance music sub-genres (house, hip hop, dubstep & breaks). Throughout every Captain Planet song, the focus remains very clearly on keeping it fun & funky.

On my desk there is a stone with the word “Amen” on it,
a triangular fragment of stone from a Jewish graveyard destroyed
many generations ago. The other fragments, hundreds upon hundreds,
were scattered helter-skelter, and a great yearning,
a longing without end, fills them all:
first name in search of family name, date of death seeks
dead man’s birthplace, son’s name wishes to locate
name of father, date of birth seeks reunion with soul
that wishes to rest in peace. And until they have found
one another, they will not find a perfect rest.
Only this stone lies calmly on my desk and says “Amen.”
But now the fragments are gathered up in lovingkindness
by a sad good man. He cleanses them of every blemish,
photographs them one by one, arranges them on the floor
in the great hall, makes each gravestone whole again,
one again: fragment to fragment,
like the resurrection of the dead, a mosaic,
a jigsaw puzzle. Child’s play.

Born in cerrado, at the vast tropical savannah of Brazil, Renato Rocha is a multi-platform digital artist. His deep, electronic productions sound as if they were filtered through the natural world around him: Plants, insects, birds, the dry wind, the moon. The same way a mosaic is created, Kurup’s music is a colorful collage. Noise fragments, samples and soundscapes are blended trough different layers to achieve the final goal: Narrative. Musical traditions of his afro-brazilian background flourish in his story together with aspects from downtempo, dub, house and techno, Finally mixed up with a psychedelic touch. 
Kurup is currently a resident dj at LIMBO and has released 4 EPs and many singles through distinct music labels around the world such as Frente Bolivarista, Tropical Twista, Shika Shika, CasaCaos, Urban Cosmonaut Radio, Leveldva, Drossel, Aya and many more.

Victor Demé - Djoon Maya (Synapson Remix)

Os Tincoãs were a Brazilian popular music band from Bahia, primarily active in the 1960s and 1970s. They are named after the Tincoã bird, a subspecies of the Squirrel Cuckoo native to Brazil. Surviving member Mateus Aleluia is still very active in singing and songwriting. This remix, by DK j g b (Joao Gualberto Braga) of Brazil is a homage to the band.
