Multicultural friendships, education, science and space travel: the leitmotifs of socialist iconography preached the great potential of its people and brought colour and texture to the drab prefabricated concrete slabs of the socialist cityscape. Architecture was the ultimate articulation of GDR planning principles and cultural policy, as a medium through which the state could disseminate their power. Kunst Am Bau, as the material manifestation of the overlap between politics, culture and social life, became an integral component of socialist city plan- ning and cultural policy. Often dismissed as mere political propaganda, Kunst Am Bau also represents optimism in a turbulent period and dreams of sharing a harmonious existence with the world. This guided jaunt traces the ideals and realities of GDR society through Kunst Am Bau in and around East Berlin’s most prestigious address, Alexanderplatz. In the process of admiring the few remaining examples and themes of this rapidly fading artistic form, we will take a critical look at the disparity between socialist life as advertised and the state of things as they actually existed, the history of the socialist building and cultural policies, and the present day conditions they face as remainders and reminders of the socialist regime. „Drei Strategien für den Weltuntergang - Back to Earth (Radio)“ ist der Audioteil zur Performance "Drei Strategien für den Weltuntergang" des 49. Jahrgangs der zeitgenössischen Puppenspielkunst der HfS Ernst Busch. Laufen Sie durch ein Kaleidoskop aus Stimmen und Sounds. Exitterra, Wilde Hilde und Landeteam Erde sind drei Zugänge zur Frage: Was gibt uns Angesicht all der vielen Bedrohungen, noch Halt gibt. Vielleicht sehen wir uns ja schon bald auf dem Mars? Die Performance fand am 16.5.2025 an diesem Ort statt.

DANA PAPACHRISTOU - SOFTSCAPES HARDSCAPES - Sound and Materiality in Berlin Biennale 10 - Workshop GIORGOS SAMANTAS - More than (what) meets the eye - Listening walk The workshop focuses on capturing the soundscape inside and outside of the exhibition venues and examines the aural relation between resonating artworks and visitors. During its first part the participants will create DIY microphones with which they will later record the sound of materials and the exhibition space itself, thus forming the soundscape of their presence inside and outside the venue. During the second part, these recorded sounds will be combined to create a collective audiowalk, a geo-located walking musical piece, that will be placed around KW Institute for Contemporary Art and will be freely accessible for the visitors to download and walk through, converting the map of the city and the paths they will choose to an improvising musical score.

Willkommen beim Stadtrundgang „Spuren des Hasses - Berlin Mitte“. Dieser Audiowalk beschäftigt sich mit historischen und gegenwärtigen Vorfällen von israelbezogenem Antisemitismus in Berlin. Im Bezirk Mitte führt er exemplarisch an neun Orte, an denen sich solche Vorfälle ereignet haben. Der Rundgang basiert auf der interaktiven Karte des Projekts „Spuren des Hasses“, die von democ entwickelt wurde. Die Karte erfasst beispielhaft Fälle von israelbezogenem Antisemitismus in Berlin seit den 1950er-Jahren. Die für diesen Soundwalk ausgewählten Vorfälle haben sich zwischen 1978 und 2025 ereignet. This audio walk is inspired by true events. A city is so multi-layered, and as a passerby, you only get to see and experience the tip of the iceberg. That’s why I would like to introduce you to some recent shady cases from Berlin-Mitte that you will never otherwise hear about."
