Immerse yourself in a world of sound and discover more than 100 aquatic soundscapes across the Sunshine Coast for Horizon Festival 2018. Listening Underwater uses GPS points to trigger audio based on location and movement and can be experienced anytime during the festival. New sounds will be added everyday and the sounds will evolve and adapt daily during the event, every sound walk will be a different experience. Listening Underwater reveals the acoustic ecologies beneath the surface of oceans, lakes and rivers across the planet. Looking at the surface of a river or marine ecosystem, it is virtually impossible to detect environmental changes. The impacts of climate change are often visible in terrestrial environments, yet dramatic changes in aquatic ecosystems can go unnoticed simply due to visibility. Listening to hydrophones (underwater microphones) provides access to a non-invasive way of understanding changing aquatic ecosystems. The featured locations include coastal mangroves in Mexico, frozen rivers in Norway, the iconic Great Barrier Reef and the coastline of Queensland including K’Gari (Fraser Island), a major transitory point for humpback whales on their southern migration. This piece of preserved domain features 6 hectares of remnant wet sclerophyll and re-vegetated forest. Located right by the ocean's edge, this area has numerous walking trails to glimpse into native flora and fauna in a protected peaceful piece of nature. Take note of native bird calls, rustling of local plant species in the wind and the faint call of the ocean's waves in this piece of preservation.

This Echoes walk about through the Boronia Fire Trail in Mooloolah River National Park is made for people to engage with the natural environment through an immersive audio experiences. the Audio includes bird calls, Water movements, footsteps and other noises you may hear at this location, focusing on key sensory elements of the trails landscape.

The SistaLAKESeries is a creative endeavour to connect the lakes of the Sunshine Coast by juxtaposing their sounds and imagery onto three Echo walks in proximity around Sippy Downs’ upper lake. Spend the morning with nature. Feel the golden sun on your skin as the sun rises over the sea and peeks through the trees. The wildlife awakens as the light brightens but the rising sun. As you get closer to the top, hear the mellow wind rustling the treetop leaves. As you approach the top, enjoy the view, breath in the fresh air, and feel the world beneath you. Immerse yourself in the diverse experience of the local soccer field. Follow the story of the field- from listening to the field's sounds while it's vacant early in the morning, to the sounds of the surrounding creek, to training and sitting in the goals, to ending the experience with cheering on your team at a night game. Actively listen to the various sounds that this environment harbours throughout different hours of the day. All audio recordings and images are produced from the location of Jubilee Park in Palmwoods, Queensland. The echoes sound walk experience is located on the sports field at the University of the Sunshine Coast, in order to enhance the immersive experience of a sporting atmosphere.

Take a step towards this immersive and unique experience to explore aviation in Australia. The ideal walking speed for this unique and fun experience is 3.5 kms/hr, at a comfortable pace.
