''her love is still here'' - found after a night full of dancing. Edinburgh musicians and sound enthusiasts, responding to this anonymous message in very different voices have gifted their music to share in the walk to raise funds for Tiny Changes.

Sha Rivari - I Might As Well Crochet If I Cannot See Jon Spencer Play

IG: @sha_rivari Edinburgh musician Sha Rivari's solo debut single is the most unusual lockdown lament to emerge from the global pandemic. Since the start of the Covid-19 outbreak Sha Rivari's punk band Coma Cat has been unable to perform or even practise, a fate they share with many bands. So Sha Rivari decided to go it alone. With a guitar, loop pedal and various random objects to stomp on, Sha Riviari, the 21st century one-man band was born. Sha Rivari is in fact not a man but wants to express that this is the century of one-person bands that aren't male-identifying. 'I Might As Well Crochet If I Cannot See Jon Spencer Play' is Sha Rivari's over the top ode to missing live gigs by her favourite musician Jon Spencer (of bands such as The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Boss Hog and Jon Spencer and the HITmakers). Sha Rivari made the song ridiculous on purpose because it was a way of hiding that this is actually no laughing matter to her. Many people care about something in a way that is disproportionate to its importance and ultimately Sha Rivari's song is an expression of great sadness and frustration she felt at the loss of music shows as a result of the Covid19 restrictions. The single was born out of love, sheer determination, too much coffee and the mantra 'I don't know what I'm doing and I'm doing it anyway'. It was recorded and produced by the artist herself. As a result it is devoid of technical perfection, but filled with heart and soul. The title track is completed by two more songs 'Stuck' and 'With No One' that exemplify Sha Rivari's unique style.

Tides of Avalon - Sundial

Tides of Avalon were formed in 2019 by Edinburgh-based friends Alan, Berni and Ross. Inspired by bands as diverse as Stereolab and Fleet Foxes, they wanted to experiment with blending harmonious male and female voices together with acoustic guitar and electronic instruments. Concentrating on writing original material, over time their sound developed and crystallised to focus more on acoustic instruments incorporating piano and flute into their arrangement (along with the odd electric guitar), though always featuring two or three-part vocal harmonies.

Holiday Club - Party Dragon

Holiday Club was formed in 2018 by friends from Edinburgh who share a love of travelling whilst playing music together. Luisa Brown and Freya Rae are at the forefront of Holiday Club as composers and performers. They advocate for equal gender rights within the music industry and have a large roster of accompanying musicians on Guitar and Bodhran who join them for gigs and sunny holidays.

You can listen to Party Dragon just by Captain's Bar, providing great support to local folk musicians and home to many memories.

Adapted and Directed by Clara Bloomfield and Ashling Findlay-Carroll Music by Jon Beales Set against the backdrop of Edinburgh’s old Town, HN1 Acting and Performance students from PASS at Edinburgh College have collaborated to create a new immersive geo-location audio performance\* of Daniel Defoe’s ‘A Journal of the Plague Year,’ for our socially distanced times. Transporting you back to the 1600’s this tale is not to dissimilar to the one we face some 350 years later. The Plague, a great leveller for Society or indeed more divisive? Download and discover a new audible world that lives hidden in the streets of Edinburgh’s Old Town. \*This digitally responsive performance is thought to be the first of its kind from students in a Further Educational Context. Run time approx 1 hour Head to St Giles Cathedral Show instructions: Install the free ECHOES app from either your ios or Android store. Download the walk ‘Journal of A Plague Year.’ To avoid using data and battery. This also avoids the performance being affected by potential signal droppage. Where the Paths End - Edinburgh Soundwalk

'Where the Paths End' is a collection of 3 different soundwalks around Edinburgh, Birmingham, and London commissioned by Plus Minus Ensemble and Zubin Kanga's Cyborg Soloists UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship at Royal Holloway University of London. Each soundwalk should take about 40 - 50 minutes to experience, and they are located in areas of cultural importance within reasonable walking distance of the venues of the Reid Concert Hall (Edinburgh), Royal Birmingham Conservatoire (Birmingham), and Cafe Oto (London), where live performances of this piece first occurred. Through the presentation of environmental sound the work attempts to offer a record of the sound of three different cities in the early part of 2023. We often have visual records of cities through photographs, paintings etc, but we seldom have sonic representation. What became apparent making these recordings is how loud our cities are, and how much of our audio space is given over to the combustion engine and other anthropophonic sounds. Environmental sounds become the springboard for other musical materials. Each movement takes the resonant frequency of the environmental recording and ornaments it with synthesizers, demonstrating that music, pitch, and even melody can be born from the sound of the environment all around us. These are lessons we learn from Annea Lockwood, Alvin Lucier, and Pauline Oliveros amongst others. In addition, between each movement, a simple drum beat with synth acts as 'headphone music' and carries us from one recorded location to the next. Finally, Where the Paths End is an attempt to incorporate walking, and my lived experience as an artistic practice in a manner similar to visual artists such as Hamish Fulton or Richard Long. There is a real beauty to walking and experiencing our habitat with heightened awareness. In this state we can offer strange interventions. How uncanny and beautiful to experience Edinburgh’s George Square in the dead of winter and hear it teeming with student life on a sunny spring day, or to stand in London’s Dalston Curve Garden and hear the bells of the Greyfriars Kirk in Edinburgh. It’s as if we can time travel or hover above the earth and eavesdrop on very specific locations simultaneously. All journeys start from home, and this piece begins with sounds created in my house. The poetic title of each moment also comes from home, more specifically poems found in the collection 'Where the Sidewalk Ends' by Shel Silverstein, which my wife was reading to my 4 year-old son during the compositional process. They are not related, but associations are born from happy accidents and experiencing disparate things simultaneously, and I like to think that each movement has something of the character of their title. The poem Where the Sidewalk Ends invites us to walk to a beautiful mythical place ‘with a walk that is measured and slow’. By the same token, I hope that this piece can bring you to a beautiful place measured and slow, whether literal or figurative.

This bonnie city is known for its historic architecture, morbid past and stunning natural landscape, but this walk will focus on the rich literary history of the city. Despite the Proclaimers advocating for a five-hundred mile walk, this one is only around three miles long. This walk will guide you around the historical old town teaching you about the authors that have walked the very streets you are on and how the landscape has inspired some of the most famous literature in existence. You will also hear an excerpt from each authors works read by local residents. So get ready for doolally detectives, havering headmistresses and endearing eejits.
