Composer / Designer / Director JG Everest specializes in creating outdoor site-specific spatial sound + performance installations that incorporate local history and ecology into multi-layered multidisciplinary artistic experiences that he calls "Sound Gardens". Based in Mni Sota Makoče, his work seeks to bring communities together at these intersections of our past, the natural world, and artistic and cultural connections to place.

A self-guided, interactive music + poetry audio tour, celebrating the fall season. Each sound is triggered by the listener's movements within the Sound Garden at Riverside Park. Experience composer/director JG Everest's Fall Sound Garden spatial sound score with original Fall poetry performed by Chavonn Shen, Annette Schiebout, Lisa Yankton, Jeffrey Skemp, and Sagirah Shahid as you move through the northwest corner area of historic Riverside Park, the oldest city park in the Minneapolis Park system. Also includes additional sonic layers by the Free Range Orchestra & Choir. Headphones recommended. Site-specific photography and dance performance details included with each sound "echo". A virtual audio accompaniment to Composer JG Everest's SPRING Sound Garden for Harbor Park, featuring original site-specific storytelling by Staci Lola Drouillard, site-specific poetry by Jeffrey Skemp and Tim Blighton, and site-specific oral histories by Grand Marais residents Gene Erickson (former owner of the Standard Gas station that sat on the Harbor Park site), Frankie Jarchow, former president of the Grand Marais Garden Club, and Gerry Grant, current volunteer member of the Garden Club . Listen to composer JG Everest's site-specific spatial symphony, the "Library Woods Sound Garden", in two movements, composed spatially for the Library Woods at the Madeline Island Public Library in May 2023, where it premiered over Memorial Day Weekend of that year. The first movement is entitled "LaPointed" (15 min) and the second movement is "M.Bells" (25 min). The Library Woods Sound Garden features soprano and baritone saxophones played by Free Range Orchestra member Matty Harris. Towards the end of the second movement, it also features the voices and piano playing of the Library's afterschool program students (and staff) from May 2023. Can you recognize any of the voices you hear? Can you hear them howl like wolves at the bus stop?

(BETA VERSION) Composer JG Everest's site-specific spatial symphony, the "Library Woods Sound Garden", is comprised of two movements, composed spatially for the Library Woods at the Madeline Island Public Library in May 2023, where it premiered live over Memorial Day Weekend of that year. This virtual version was commissioned in May 2025. The first movement is entitled "LaPointed" (15 min) and the second movement is "MI Bells" (25 min). Library Woods features soprano and baritone saxophones played by Free Range Orchestra member (and longtime Island visitor) Matty Harris.

HARBOR PARK: A Spring Sound Garden (Full Album)

An audio recording of the full-length site-specific spatial symphony created by composer JG Everest for Harbor Park in Grand Marais in Spring 2018, when it premiered as a live "Sound Garden" event, with over 40 small wireless speakers, each playing a different part of the whole piece of music, and placed according to the compositional "architecture" throughout the park space. This recorded version also features the site-specific stories and poems written and performed by Staci Lolo Drouillard, Jeffrey Skemp, and Tim Blighton for the project. The Spring Sound Garden returned for another live performance in Spring 2021, to celebrate the 15-Year Anniversary of Harbor Park. Stereo Album version mixed by Brett Bullion.
