Wellington, New Zealand, 'Nightingales'

Wellington, New Zealand, 'Nightingales'

A remote collaboration between two artists in Cornwall, England, and rural Aberdeenshire in Scotland. Initially based around the notions of parenthood, whilst also considering personal, geographical and political space. Composition naturally began to accommodate responses to the pandemic as the album was written during the COVID19 lockdown of 2020. The first five tracks use only the voice and audio production techniques, field recordings, and radio excerpts, whilst the final track contains additional instrumentation.

Tasman Homeschoolers Listening Project

Tasman Homeschoolers Listening Project

Come and take a walk with the Tasman Homeschoolers! Follow the route of their sound walk, with spoken reflections created by the children and their families. Across four workshops, participants developed skills in listening, audio technology, storytelling, and group work. The project culminated in a guided sound walk and reflection session. The children identified points of interest on the walk and recorded their reflections. This project was an outcome of 'The Listening Project' by Van Diemen's Band, facilitated by teaching artist Rachel Meyers and supported by the Tasmanian Government.

Whispering Walls St Helens with Van Diemen's Fiddles

Whispering Walls St Helens with Van Diemen's Fiddles

Whispering Walls is a 35-minute geo-located audio walk along St Helen’s newest walking track, a shared cycle- and walk-way along the foreshore from the town centre to the Lion’s Park. It is presented by Van Diemen’s Fiddles, and is offered as a free event for ticket holders to the ‘Whispering Walls’ concert as part of Ten Days on the Island 2021 festival. The walk can be taken at any time between 12th and 14th March 2021, and participants will need to use their own mobile device and headphones. Whispering Walls is a compilation of selected local stories, sounds, and original music inspired by St Helens and surrounds. Each element is a single thread of the rich tapestry of the place, but in weaving them together, we hope that they may help you to experience this town in a different way. Towns are best discovered at a walking pace, so please, join us in celebrating the small sounds and stories of this place as you take a walk at some point over the weekend.

Forest Walk with Van Diemen's Fiddles

Forest Walk with Van Diemen's Fiddles

Fancy a stroll on kunanyi, accompanied by fiddles and mutated windchimes? Good. This walk runs from Fern Tree Park to Silver Falls. If you're using noise reducing headphones, we suggest you turn that feature off to experience the walk as intended - the spontaneous, real-time sounds from the Pipeline are just as important as the audio tracks in the Echoes app.

Table Cape Listening Project

Table Cape Listening Project

Welcome to the Table Cape Listening Project, a sound walk music composition by Rachel Meyers, commissioned by Business Northwest. It was inspired after a residency of deep listening to the area, and is a combination of music, field recordings, and sound manipulations that creatively respond to the area. As you arrive in the carpark, the audio will begin playing through the Echoes.xyz app on your mobile phone or listening device - all you need to do is pop in some headphones and press 'Start Walk.' As you move through the walk linking Table Cape Lighthouse with the Lookout or vice versa, the audio will automatically begin to play. The speed at which you walk will dictate how the tracks overlap and intersect with each other, so every time it is listened there are small variations. Once you reach the end of the walk, the track that you are listening to will gradually fade out. Once it is finished, we suggest that for your return journey, you take out the headphones and simply listen deeply to the sounds around you.
