Friar's Bush

Friar’s Bush Graveyard is one of Belfast’s oldest Christian burial sites. There is a lot of history within its walls. Dating back to the 1600s, the graveyard has played an intriguing part in the city’s history. It is the burial place of thousands of victims of epidemics and famine. Bodysnatchers in the 19th century also stalked the cemetery for cadavers to sell to medical schools. The graveyard is only open to visitors who make an appointment via the City Council website: https://tinyurl.com/3n3anvjf.

You can get a great view of the graveyard from the Nature Zone room on the second floor of the Ulster Museum. This is one of the most fascinating spots on the tour.

Queen's Film Theatre

The Queen’s Film Theatre has been showing all sorts of films since it opened in 1968. You may enjoy going to the cinema with friends, or even alone, but you may not be aware your ticket could include a plus 1 you didn’t expect.

Lanyon Building

Queen’s University’s iconic Lanyon Building is a fine example of Victorian architecture. There are no reports of ghostly activity here, however the building does have a few surprising and, depending on your point of view, creepy secrets. Listen to the audio to learn more!

Alanbrooke Hall/Elm's Village

Before the Elm’s Village student complex was built in the early 2000s, a large tower block named Alanbrooke Hall stood on the site. Like Elm’s Village, it served as accommodation for university students. Strange activity occurred on the tower’s sixth floor. Books fell off of shelves; doors rattled because of an unseen force. Terrifying apparitions appeared at the foot of students’ beds. Come to Elm’s Village to hear more about the haunting of Alanbrooke Hall.

David Keir Building

The David Keir Building was opened in the 1950s as an extension to the University Campus. It houses the Schools of Architecture and Geography. The front of the building is on the Malone Road, however it is also accessible from the Stranmillis Road. It is opposite Friar’s Bush graveyard. The building is reportedly built on a monastic settlement. Some believe that because of the close location to the graveyard, and the spiritual past of the site, that ghostly presences haunt the building. Most reports of ghostly activity centre on a corridor that connects the David Keir Building to the Ashby Building next to it. It runs underground. If you’re feeling brave enough, why not go inside and have a look for it?

This soundwalk in the Belfast’s Botanic Gardens explores human relationship to wildlife in this close urban setting through sound and performance. Meeting Point: SARC Foyer Please bring headphones and a smartphone You will then be led to sound walk location Botanic Gardens, 5 minutes walk from SARC The Botanic Gardens is a carefully tended busy green space near the centre of Belfast where people meet their friends, eat their lunch or walk the dog. It is also home to a variety of wildlife most notably birds. Over the past 2 years Robert has been recording and studying the soundscape, particularly the birds and their behaviour here as well as several related sites around Ireland. Combining contemporary eco-acoustic methods with traditional knowledge on biodiversity we explore the act of listening and how it can facilitate a deeper understanding of these non-human lives around us and crucially how our actions affect them today.
