Take yourself on a journey and explore the modern-but-historical side of Maastricht! This audio tour aims to introduce you to the Sphinxkwartier, the old industrial area in the city of Maastricht. This place was once occupied by the Sphinx factories founded by Petrus Regout. This area has a particular significance because this is where the industrial revolution of the Netherlands started. Since the factories moved in 2006, the area has been redeveloped and the old industrial buildings have been transformed into contemporary individual spaces. Each track will introduce you to a different part of the old buildings and show you how the new business have preserved parts of the old factories and acknowledge the industrial heritage of the area, while introducing modern elements into their design.
