O Roteiro Linschoten

room 12 ECHOES

Location: Angra do Heroísmo, Azores, Portugal

Missing You - W&T 9.5

Missing You - W&T 9.5

Missing You is an app-based audio walk created by artist and musician Danny Bracken. The walk invites listeners to traverse the streets of Ponta Delgada, Azores while listening to a collection of geolocated recordings produced by the artist near his home in Pittsburgh. Unable to travel to the Walk&Talk festival due to COVID-19, Bracken took a series of walks while playing guitar, using binaural recordings to evoke a sensation of walking alongside him as he plays. Ambient sounds of passing cars, humming air-conditioning units, and chirping birds conjure the environment in which these short musical gestures were created and map it onto an alternate landscape. Transportive and grounding, this place-based experience connects listeners with their surroundings on São Miguel while at the same time immersing them in the textures and rhythms of a place far away. Creating the simple impression of taking a walk with the artist, this work invites a small moment of human intimacy in a time of isolation and absence. Headphones are highly recommended. Audio recording by Erin Anderson All music by Danny Bracken Besides: "In The End" by Daniel Bracken Sr. "Wild Mountain Thyme" Irish / Scottish traditional And a section of lyrics from "Keep on the Sunny Side" by Ada Blenkhorn Danny Bracken is a multidisciplinary artist working in Pittsburgh, US since 2008. His creative practice explores technological change and its impact on our perceptions and experiences of the people and places that surround us. These works often incorporate video, sound, and physical objects; ranging from public installations to small-scale sculptures, printed material to vinyl record releases. Born into a family of musicians, sound occupies a central role in Bracken’s work, and takes the form of film scores, installations, and stand-alone recordings. This project was created for Walk&Talk 9.5 - an annual Arts Festival of the Azores.

ISLAND NEX(US): ARQUIPÉLAGO

ISLAND NEX(US): ARQUIPÉLAGO

LEAH BARCLAY, LUÍS VIEIRA, SANDY SUR, TOBY GIFFORD AND LYNDON DAVIS Invisible Places 2017 ISLAND NEX(US): Arquipélago in an augmented reality sound walk that connects the local communities of São Miguel island with the sounds and stories of island communities in the Asia Pacific region who are facing the true ramifications of climate change. The initial layers of sound walk connect with the Leweton Community and Vanuatu Women’s Water Music who hail from the remote northern tropical islands of Gaua and Merelava in Vanuatu. The soundscapes will be underscored by a cultural ceremony from Sandy Sur, a community leader and researcher who focuses on Vanuatu Water Music and its connection to the environment. Sandy’s research aims to develop a deeper understanding of the role sound plays in the environment and how the Water Music of Vanuatu is deeply inspired by place, nature and culture. This cultural tradition is now evolving in response to rapidly changing climates and can act as a call to action. The experience connects to the soundscapes of coastal and island communities in Australia through hydrophone (underwater) recording and community voices across the ocean. The soundscapes of Noosa Biosphere Reserve are supported by the voice of Lyndon Davis, director of Gubbi Gubbi Dance and traditional custodian of the local region. The sounds, songs and stories in this sound walk explore ecological interconnection, sustainability and the art and science of listening to the environment. Die Koralle - A Diplomatic Intervention

Die Koralle - A Diplomatic Intervention

At the end of March 1967, a group of scientists from the Museum of Natural History in East Berlin boarded a ship in Rostock and travelled towards Cuba. 70 kilometres east of Havana, on a coast strip called Arroyo Bermejo, they worked towards the realisation of an ambitious project: corals, fish and other organisms were to be collected, transferred to East Berlin and worked into a reconstruction of a Cuban coral reef that would be integrated to the permanent exhibition of the Natural History Museum. This imaginary sound walk traces from different perspectives this coral’s trip to Berlin, exploring 50 years of a never-ending journey.

Film 1001 Location Aware Media Project -

This is a Film 1001 location-aware media project. My tutorial is 04. Website: https://creator.echoes.xyz/collection/ysnE1S7k8UdjNKcj Description: Going to an art museum for me has always been much more than just going and looking at art. Elements such as the ambience of the world around you shape how you feel when you see the work. My goal for these echoes is to capture my feelings of memorable art pieces, along with creating the audible ambience that I experienced when I was there. I also tried to incorporate a feeling that the audio was recorded on cassette, somewhat as I have experienced via guided tours of museums.
