SonicMvmtScapes (Sonic Movement Scapes) is a project directed by sound artist Samara Rice and dance artist Yasmine Lindskog that utilizes gps-triggered technology, sound, movement, and text to create unique experiences through urban and natural landscapes. It is an invitation for individuals to gain a deeper connection to the places they are a part of, to speculate the ways they relate to space, and to enter a heightened state of presence. This sound-movement experience takes you from Lake Studios Berlin to Müggel park through the Friedrichshagen Spreetunnel to the forested paths along Müggelsee. Along the way, GPS-triggered soundscapes and texts invite you to tune into your surroundings, encouraging new ways of connecting to and relating with place.

Track 1: arriving

Here, where you are, pause. Breath in and out. Filling your body with air and slowly releasing it. Take a moment to arrive into this space. To see the liveliness and the stillness around you. Giving yourself to the presence of this space. I invite you to use this experience to notice, to attend to the present, to the landscapes, to the flora and fauna, to the people who cross paths with you along the way. To notice how you begin to move through space, how you relate to these landscapes and how sensations emerge in your body. Begin to walk forward, foot to foot, and allow the experience to unfold...

Track 2: meandering: activate the music as you walk to the park

Track 3: pathways

Parks are beautiful spaces of encounters; transient and ephemeral, where pathways momentarily cross and intersect.

I invite you to wander through this park, to paint new pathways, to create your own path, to discover the soundscapes inside the park. As if, each step left a painted track behind you. Walk in curves, lines, intersect existing paths, shape the space, change your perspective, see the space, feel what gives you direction as you wander. Allow the soundscapes to morph your pathways, to redirect you to find new pathways as you go. Allow yourself to enter the landscape and the landscape to enter you.

Here is a quote by David Abrams to leave you with as you wander through this space: “We experience the sensuous world only by rendering ourselves vulnerable to that world. Sensory perception is this ongoing interweavement: the terrain enters into us only to the extent that we allow ourselves to be taken up within that terrain.”

Track 6: expansiveness

Vast, open spaces, the expansiveness enters you. The rhythms of the water, a meditation for the eyes. Allow yourself to find the expansiveness inside your own body, following the pathway of your breath, how each inhale and exhale stretches and creates more space inside of you. How that simple act of breathing can invite movement into your body, how you can guide the pathway of the breath to shape that movement.

Where nature and urban meet Hear the echoes, of the voices, of the steps, of the laughter, of the silence Maybe when we pass through this tunnel something changes in us, we emerge changed, something passes through us, Water flows through us, the tunnel stretches us, We soften a bit more, we melt deeper into the moment This side has an extra step, 50. Keep to the right, follow the forested paths along the water.

Track 11: water body

Water has a powerful response in the body. We begin life floating in the watery womb of our mothers. Water is a source that fires many positive physiological responses in the body. As you walk, I invite you to imagine your body as an empty vessel that is filled with water, sensing how the water flows through each limb, how waves dance through your body, how fluid and light your movement can be. It can be minimal, barely visible or it can be expansive and full in all the limbs of your body. Discover the dance inside you.
