Scatter is inspired by the elliptical orbit of Halley's Comet around the sun, the elliptical shape of Manhattan, and the orbits of transportation we regularly engage with in city life. Scatter maps these celestial and commonplace commutes into a singular experience. This project features recorded performances by Duo Axis. To experience Scatter through the Echoes app you must be located in Manhattan 1. Download the Echoes app for your phone and allow it to know your location 2. Download or Stream "Scatter" 3. Plug in your headphones and regularly check the app to observe how the music changes based on your travels in the city. Edward Albee's one act play The Zoo Story (1958) begins as the eccentric Jerry approaches an unsuspecting Peter who is sitting on a park bench along Central Park. This walk retraces the character Jerry's steps as he walks up 5th Avenue from the zoo on 65th Street until he finds Peter on 74th Street. Listen to Jerry's monologue in this public space with the ambient sounds of the park, and allow yourself to imagine how you might react to a stranger telling you this story.
